Peterson Fuel - TANKSHIPS®

Peterson Fuel Delivery presently operates a fleet of three FUEL SHIPS® designated as "Tankship" by the United States Coast Guard. These vessels have been designed to American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) standards, and are United States Coast Guard certified and inspected. They are all state of the art, steel constructed, double hulled and self propelled tankers operating at a maximum speed of 8 knots, fully laden.

What makes our "Tankships" unique is their ability to "spud down" at any location, in water up to 26’ deep. This technique is possible through the use of two hydraulically operated chain winches which permit the raising and lowering of two 34 foot steel poles (spuds), that, when lowered, drive into the bottom and literally become "pilings". This process effectively turns the "Tankship" into a dock. We are then able to have vessels come alongside, up to two at a time, and up to 160’ in length, tie off to us, and fuel. This ability is also useful when fueling vessels at a dock, as it permits the "Tankship" to come alongside and "spud down", and not need the use of fenders to tie off.

The numerous features incorporated in the design and construction of our vessels that not only enable us to operate safely and efficiently, also enable us to keep our maintenance and operational costs low. All operating systems on the "Tankships" are hydraulic, including the bow thruster, fuel delivery pumps, and of course, the spud chain winches. All controls are operated from the helm, enabling our vessels to be manned by a single operator.

Fuel is carried in four separate tank compartments totaling 250 barrels or 10,300 gallons. Each tank is separately valved, enabling the "Tankship" to carry different grades of diesel to customers requiring either low sulfur or ultra low sulfur content.
